Comments about Montara Boot:

These boots were great! I wore them for 10 days in Iceland with very little break in time. They were comfortable from the start. I have problem feet and prone to blisters, and heel problems. I did wear sock liners and then some medium weight wool hiking socks with these and they were great!

They stood up to the trail pretty well, and were fairly water resistant as we crossed several streams and waterfall passings.

While my friends in keens struggled for grip on slick rocks, I had no problems! Also, I got several compliments on how good looking my boots are from others.

My only complaint is they seem to have taken a beating from approx 40 miles of hiking, and look very worn out already. I am concerned about durability. Although I love the leather lining at the top of the ankle support, it is such a light color that it got filthy and will not come clean.

Overall I like these so much I am tempted to buy another pair!

Comments about Montara Boot:

Love these boots. Purchased them for a Grand Canyon/Zion trip last year and they were excellent. Took them to the Smoky Mountains this year and not so awesome. I had hiking socks on and water resistant hiking pants. It down poured for two hours at the end of the hike and my feet got soaked. Not sure if it came thru the bottom of the boot or my pants were so wet that it went from sock down into the boot? Either way it was miserable. I'll keep trying them though!

Comments about Montara Boot:

I am not one to frequent writing reviews, but I feel so powerfully about these boots that I am dedicating time (away from the wilderness) to do such. I bought these for a great price after having been recommended to Ahnu by a family member and after dedicated time reading other reviews and doing research. My family member frequents long birding hikes and backpacking adventures, so her recommendation was meaningful. I tried on both size 9.5 and 10, because I often fit both shoe size quite well. With some deliberation, I went with the 10. I felt so comfortable in them that I thought I wouldn't need to break them in, yet I did because I didn't want any trouble. I broke them in twice while doing yard work, and had no problems.

The real test came from my trip to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. An average of 10 miles a day in muddy, wet forestland and on brutal, steep escarpments proved the comfort and durability of my boots. The forest was particularly wet this season, and despite being ankle deep in mud puddles, my white socks stayed clean and dry! (see photo). Some reviewers have mentioned that they did not feel the boots were as waterproof as promised, but I had no problem walking straight through shallow water. Yes, water did leak in when I fully submerged the boot past my ankle, but I did not expect these boots to magically expel such a situation. Even more, after an average 10 mile day with nearly 40 floors climbed per day (according to my phone app), my boots never gave me the slightest beginnings of a blister. No pain, no discomfort, all smiles.

CLIFFNOTES VERSION:
-Great price for great boots
-Extremely waterproof and mud proof
-INCREDIBLY comfortable
-For added effect let me repeat, INCREDIBLY comfortable
