    Comments about Sugarpine Boot:

My test run was a one night 10 mile RT out-and-back in the rugged Sierras carrying a 21 lb pack. Hiked from 6000 up to 8300 feet ele at temps from 30-65 degrees. My feet were warm the whole time -even early in the am (was surprised at that.) Crossed 4 streams - one significant: EXCELLENT traction on icy/wet crossings! Hiked in 2-3" deep mud, puddles, and rocky terrain throughout the trip and I don't even need to wash them off - the mud sluiced off before I even got to the car.

Great ankle support - the stability of switching from a trail runner to a boot really increased my range. I typically get knee pain within 2 miles of a decent. I was at just over mile 4 when I got knee soreness and I had punished my knees much more than usual (hopping off rocks, twisting, more weight than usual.) I have one other pair of boots, but they are so heavy that I get worse knee pain than trail runners or the new Sugarpine.

My one negative is a pressure point on the front of both my ankles from the tongue's fold. The material is quite stiff. I found that if I twist the tongue to one side it eliminates the pressure point. Overall: LOVE these boots!

FYI: I just bought these this week and have put in 15 miles so far.

      Comments about Sugarpine Boot:

Used these hiking in on the gorge, they were so light weight, so very comfortable! When I saw them I was in love, but was weary cause I have never found a pair of hiking boots that felt good on my ankles. I put my foot in, and it was like striking GOLD!! Sending this link out to all of my hiker friends.
      HIGHLY HIGHLY RECCOMEND THESE!!
PS I have high arches, and the support in these feel great! I did find with my high arches and the support it worked better for me not to wear thick socks.

We spent a day in town also which I spent in the boots, they are so light weight and have style - so you got from town to the mountain with out changing - I got so many stares, and comments on them! I went with the dark gray and teal, its a medium gray, making it basically work with anything you wear.

We did spend about an hour on the train tracks which was fine. But we were looking for old metal scraps along the sides of the gorge. Basically all uneven unstable rocks. I thought if this was an all day thing I might want a show with no bend at all. These boots don't have a lot of bend to them but they do have a little at the toes. Keep in mind I didn't have the ankles really tight. Only con if you make the ankles really tight the small metal piece (which is the inside of the top lace/hook) then you can feel the metal push into if you are wearing thin socks. We did a 4 mile hike the day before that was uneven most of the way and I thought they were great. So only if you were maybe rock climbing all day on unstable rocks then you might one a boot that has no give at all.

      Comments about Sugarpine Boot:

Each shoe looks like a rainbow. I am returning it because although they are so comfortable, I want a shoe that doesn't draw so much attention to my neon feet. Would be perfect if this shoe came in browns or grey without the neon blues.
